This has been a nasty week, but it’s ending on a better, happier note. It started off with an all-nighter when I had to stay up finishing a sculpture (I’ll post photos of it soon). Two nights later, I came close to an all-nighter studying. Then I had a test. It was rough and busy, and that’s why I haven’t been posting very much.
But good news came in my email this morning. Cellar Door, the campus literary magazine, is interested in publishing one of my pieces. I have to revamp the ending of the story, and I have to revamp it really, really soon, but I’m quite honored, especially considering that as far as campus literary magazines go, Cellar Door is among the best.
This ought to be a fun weekend, too. I’m headed with a friend to go to a blues festival.
And… I’ve discovered a cool artist while doing art history work. His name is Vladimir Kush, and while the snotty elitists might view his work and visual metaphors as a little cheesy at times, I really like it. It’s wonderful and whimsical surrealism. Hover over for titles.

Oh, I really love the last one with Don Quixote chasing butterfly windmills! Very cool. And congratulations on your possible acceptance into Cellar Door. That is quite an accomplishment because you have a lot of competition there. Yay!

Congratulations! That’s good news!
About the Cellar Door.
How cool–you get to hear good blues;
Nothing cheers me more.
That artist—he is quite a find.
But how strange to me it seems
That somehow he could paint MY mind
And know so well MY dreams.

It’s incredibly interesting. It’s Dali-esque and makes one ponder.
My little writers group is like the Engine That Could. A local Art League is backing us and providing a meeting space as writing is art, and would like to feature our work in the future.
I talked to one of their best….and her take was so wonderful to me…..she walked in there 20 years ago with one of her paintings huddled against her breast as she was so scared that somebody might not think her “an artist” and that she dared try and exhibit with “artists.” The elitist was actually all in her mind- – - nobody was elitist, it was only her nervousness. She’s now frequently served on the Board of Directors and works to promote fine art everywhere. She does just kick ass works, but yet was so nervous to read in our group……with the “real” writers.
I think sometimes all of us limit ourselves out of fear, and make our own constraints. BRBCG is a perfect example- – - there are novels inside of her waiting to come out. Shannon

Blue Ridge Blue Collar Girl, thank you for the congratulations. Thank you for the poem comment, Big Fan.
And Shannon, you are so right about people making their own constraints. You break loose from the tethers of the world and then you end up tripping over your own leash. It’s hard not to when someone has attacked you or your work in the past.
And you’re right about BRBCG. I hope we see a novel from her soon!

I’ve seen this artists’ work before. Even though surrealism is not my sup of tea, you have to admire his skill.
Congratulations on the Cellar Door! That is certainly a big deal!
Oh, an yes yes yes on novel out of Beth soon. I will be lined up for an early copy!

This is kind of strange…I like your stuff better. Where did you run across all that, anyhow? I know that he can’t be that common… But I do appreciate the Don Quijote association…
